Hog Island Oyster Co. | Inaugural BCorps Benefit Report
Project Brief
Hog Island Oyster Co., a renowned oyster farm and hospitality brand, became a certified BCorp in 2015 and a Benefit Corporation in 2016, committing to measure success by more than financial performance. Their first-ever impact report needed to capture not just numbers, but the spirit of their mission, values, and the people behind the business — building pride and understanding among shareholders, employees, and stakeholders.
The resulting report elevated awareness of Hog Island’s sustainability efforts, strengthened alignment around company values, and set a lasting precedent for purpose-driven storytelling that reinforces their role as a leader in sustainable aquaculture and community impact.
-
The company faced the task of crafting an inaugural impact report that would resonate with shareholders accustomed to traditional financial statements while also educating a broader audience unfamiliar with what BCorp certification truly meant.
-
To bring Hog Island’s values to life, we developed a creative reporting approach that spotlighted the people behind the mission. Through bold visuals, dynamic photography, and infographic-style storytelling, we translated complex impact data into an engaging, accessible format.
-
The final report did more than explain Hog Island’s new certification — it created alignment across stakeholders, fostered deeper understanding of the company’s purpose-driven path, and sparked a sense of pride that reinforced Hog Island’s role as a leader in sustainable aquaculture.
Cultivating Community, Growing A Sustainable Future.
At its core, Hog Island set out to demonstrate that business success can go hand in hand with environmental stewardship and community impact. By reframing their reporting through storytelling and design, the company not only educated stakeholders about BCorp values but also strengthened loyalty, trust, and alignment across audiences.
The inaugural report established a model for future communications, positioning Hog Island as a purpose-driven leader in sustainable aquaculture.
